They said, listen, we know those activist types are always squawking online about IEPs and this and that, and it's a nice idea and all, but to ask every single teacher to bend over backwards to try and tailor each and every lesson to each and every student just because some lazybones doesn't want to put the effort in—that was pure selfishness.

I really like how clearly the tone comes through on the indirect speech here - as well as making it clear how that must have landed with the listener.

Knowing that Izzy was in good hands, all Fang had to do when he got back to hotel room each evening was lie back, type in the password, and unzip.

HAHA, so I was right in thinking it was that!

Somehow I took it as sci-fi and figured he was unzipping his consciousness from his body or something like that.

That's such a better idea! Unfortunately, it's just a guy getting saucy videos from his husband while he's away on a work trip.
