This weekend will be our first writing retreat weekend of 2026, and our 17th total! We have been hosting retreats since 2022.

🌷 Retreats are exclusive to our discord. Over the years, I've tried extending them to include a tumblr community, participation via email, and we even had them running on multiple discords simultaneously at one point (which, as you can imagine, meant a great deal more work to pull them off).

🌷 For 2026, we have returned to our original format. Retreats will run Saturday & Sunday on discord, with a soft opening Friday night (my time) for the general membership. Thursday will be reserved for our server staff, who lose a lot of their own writing time while the retreat is ongoing.

🌷 Retreats are self-paced. Join when you can, for an hour or the whole weekend! Work on anything you like. Just be sure to track your total word count so you can report it! You can work independently or interact with other writers. To keep us connected, we have casual check-ins on Saturday and Sunday. Our coffee break chat is currently on hiatus, but Taurus will be leading a craft chat about editing on Sunday!

Once on the server, go to Channels & Roles and opt into "Writing retreat weekends." The retreat channels will become visible once the retreat starts.

On this day in 2018, while driving to work, I had the idea of a little hashtag game for fic writers. There were plenty of these for original fiction, but I felt awkward participating as a fic writer and figured I wasn't the only one. We started that same afternoon as a "what are you working on?" hashtag event on Wednesdays that expanded to a Q&A, moved to Saturdays, moved to Sundays, and eventually went on hiatus when we launched the event series.

I didn't imagine we'd grow beyond the hashtag game, certainly didn't expect we'd be hanging out eight years later. To everyone who has been here since the start, and to everyone we've met along the way, thanks for making fandom a little brighter!
