IN FIC: Have a character call someone else “sweetheart” as a pet name! No sarcasm. It can be an accident or in anger, but they should mean it.

IN ART: Use the word “sweetheart” in a piece of art. You can stylize it as a design element, or it can appear as a pet name in a speech bubble.

I can't believe it's time to post this list again. Like in the past, questions focus on what you created and how you felt this year. I promise there are no questions about popularity or reader response.

A very kind person has gifted this community a paid account for the next 12 months. I'm exploring what features that might unlock for us. It seems like we will have extended search ability, so maybe an old-fashioned comment meme is in our future!

To that person, thank you so much for your generosity. Dreamwidth relies on donations just like AO3 in order to keep the servers running and provide an ad-free space where we can talk freely, so your gift benefits not only us but all of the site's users.

As a side note: ficwip is a volunteer operation run by one person with the help of some friends on discord, and we have no expenses to cover! If you would like to gift something to the community, we could coordinate something like a giveaway for Scrivener licenses, or you could donate time and organize an event for 2026. I am still making up the schedule for discord and dreamwidth.

Nope. Be free.

🎵 Does it have to be a fic?

No, any and all fanworks are welcome. "But the collection nam--" I just typed that when I created the collection, since this is AO3 and fics are primarily posted here. Please do whatever you want and don't let the collection title stand in your way! "Why don't you change it?" I like the rhythm.

🎵 If I wrote a song-inspired fic earlier in the year, then listened to the song so many times it made my Top Songs, can I retroactively add the fic to the collection?

Yes, I think you should.

🎵 What if multiple songs from a playlist for a fic I wrote earlier in the year ended up on my Top Songs? Can I add that fic?

Go for it.

🎵 Can it be a song-inspired fanwork from a prior Wrapped?

Yes, this is a general collection for fanworks inspired by Wrapped. It's not specific to any year. Feel free to add older stuff that fits the criteria!

The year is coming to an end, and if you’re like me, you’ve got a stack of things you want to finish before then. This coming weekend, pick something to finish and report back when it's done.

Schedule:

🗓️ Now through Sunday, November 30

Discord Members:

💬 A version will be running on the server as well starting on Thursday. You can participate from either location, but the instances are separate. Dreamwidth's is open first.

How it works:

Your to-do list can be one item or 50.
Get done what you can!! Progress is progress!
The task doesn’t have to be finishing something 100%. They can be steps in your creative process, like writing an outline, editing a fic, putting the finishing touches on a piece of art, or finally ordering that fabric for cosplay.
You can include non-creative stuff too, like cleaning out a spare room, touching up the baseboards, or dropping off something for donation.
Anything you finish is welcome in the AO3 collection!

How to play:

Comment on this post with something you want to finish this weekend.
Thread your comment with updates as you finish/add new things to work on. Finishing things builds momentum, so report in as much as you want with updates!

It's not quite ready yet, but I wanted to announce our upcoming sister community

thecoffeeshop.

What this will be: This 18+ writers' community is an attempt to bridge the gap between open spaces like bluesky and private discord servers, which are not everyone's tea. It is not going to replace our discord, which remains our central hub, but will exist in tandem with it. Members will be able to post questions about writing, ask for help with AO3 or writing software, or search for a beta reader. Like everything we do, it will evolve based on use.

What this won't be: The Coffee Shop will not host events. It's a gathering space. It's possible there will be support posts for future ficwip events, though!
