WIP from my TFTHY long-fic [Fandom: Tomb Raider]

My first attempt at participating in this challenge on Dreamwidth, so I'm hoping this goes well.

"You don't know, Pierre?! We're talking about Alister Fletcher and his henchman Lara Croft, you goddamn moron!" Gabriel scolds in rage.

"S-So what, Gabriel?" he stammers, trying to think of the choice words to justify the thieves' behavior. "They may have grown poor, you know? Poverty is a good motive for them to resort to theft-"

Gabriel giving him a rough hit to the temple with his rifle's butt side causes Pierre to fall to the road, clutching to where it hit him and cursing under his breath from the pain.

"Gods, Pierre, I am so sick of your excuses!" Gabriel objects, clearly on the verge of losing what little patience he's had. "You got your first hit to the temple, and now you get another for buying the worst prison cells for these bastards!" He does just that, knocking Pierre unconscious. "Come on, lads, let us report our failure to Raphael. And don't even protest him; we're all just cannon fodder anyway!"

Seconding the line about corn being intriguing! It's a good hook in this snippet.

That made me laugh :D Something about the combination of the words "just keeps growing" (sounds quite exasperated but like peace has been made with it) and the way you end it with "my friend".

Amusingly, this is from the sane wip as last week (a lot of food going on I guess 😂)

"I need to buy a new pair of headphones; maybe we could eat ddeokbokki along the way?" His voice comes out small and a bit tentative, but Baekhyun beams at him and the clenched muscles in his chest loosen.

I like how we feel the relief through the relaxing of his muscles.

Fully agree with muse and linky, and I'll add onto it: I love the description of the voice coming out as small and tentative - clearly, he meant to sound more natural, but the nerves got the better of him, the poor guy 🥺🤲 And! I love that you used the word "beam" - it's perfect here! It carries in itself such soothing warmth, just right for the 'he' in this snippet to feel relaxed thanks to it <3

That's so fun! My excerpt also had a mention of headphones, lol. I can feel the character Baekhyun's with finally start to loosen up after Baekhyun agrees to go along. Great imagery!

Such a simple line of dialogue, but also one that says so much! I wonder who the pendant is for and what happened to the character they said this to that made them need a new one. I love this!

This is from Yuri's POV.

CW: mentions of homophobic attitudes

She remembered when she came out and Mihee called her, saying she was inspired to confess to someone because of her. That was probably the best thing that came out of the ordeal. The casual homophobia she experienced on the streets made her buy noise-cancelling headphones. People talked behind her back. Even now, she heard the whispers of two students walking past. They seemed supportive, though, which she appreciated. These walls were safe, at least.

It's so sweet that Yuri's coming out had something positive to come out (heh) of it, too, like Mihee's confession. I can imagine that felt nice 🥺 Poor thing, having to deal with the negative aspects, though...

This sentence is so nice <3 It feels like hope and, as it states, safety. The fact that Yuri is not wearing her noise-cancelling headphones within these walls only confirms it.

Still, he was not going to sell himself, not even for gold coins. Pride was not something solely reserved to those who could buy it. Matthew had received his fair share of it at birth as well. He remembered the way that Mercator had looked at him, leered even. Matthew growled and tightened his fingers around the handle of his pipe. To this man, Matthew was nothing but a piece of cheap flesh that'd jump at the sight of silver and gold.

From what I see in this snippet, the disgust aimed at Mercator is so valid... Throwing all those coins right at him. Hard.

I laughed at how different the two instructions are 😂 Those aren't very related! "Toothbrush--no? Then buy ice cream". On a second thought, if you have a toothbrush, you can indulge yourself in ice cream before bed... Maybe the character has a point :P

I really enjoy how crisp the sentences are; short and straight to the point, meant to be answered. I understand that it's a phone call? "Read me the flavors." endears me quite a bit for some reason <3

a little late but I'm here:

“You totally should wear more red too, it look great with your dark hair and eyes.”

“A-ah, I… I j-just… needed new clothes, no big deal.” Taking praise wasn’t easy for him and Solomon knew that, just gazing at him with love as Karl started to lead them out of the airport. “A-anyway, you must be tired from the long trip, so let’s get going… you just brought this luggage…?”

“Hmhm ~ it was a calm flight but I sure could use a shower… and yes ~ I thought I could buy anything extra here anyway with time, so I only brought essentials.”

“That’s smart.” He agreed, relaxing more since the anticipated reunion was flowing so well.

I like how different the two personalities are in this snippet! The confidence & awkwardness really come across.

Toiletries come together quickly, and he even remembers the hair mask in the shower, the third one so far this tour even though they’re only a month in because he keeps leaving them in hotels and making sad eyes at Changbin until the other man buys him a new one.

Rip to all those hair masks 🙏 This one is different, though c: I really like the detail of how this hair mask came to be in his possession - him "making sad eyes at Changbin" to have it bought is both funny and sweet!
