A small box sat atop the chair that Billy'd chose for tonight, after months Curtis finally talked him into coming to group. He'd not only made it through the army but what one might describe as hell and back too. But being here tonight felt right for Billy, to share with those who understood him didn't judge on his past.
Working with Rawlins had been a mistake, one that even haunted his dreams; he could still see him in that warehouse with Frank that look in his eyes when he told Billy to stand down. He should've let Frank finish him off back then if Billy knew the trouble that Rawlins would bring, maybe Billy was too much of a coward to end it in the desert.
But Billy had never seen the good in anyone not even himself. So whoever left this gift obviously didn't know him well, or at all. It was hard to see his fellow veterans filing in, empty stares at the rich CEO thinking he'd made it out just fine. What was someone like Billy Russo doing here?
Scooping the box off the chair, Billy enjoyed a small moment of silence before group began. There was a note attached, from a mysterious admirer, or Frank getting his revenge. Not that Billy would blame him, no amount of sorry's would wash the blood from his hands.
Dear, Mr Russo.
I know you're thinking, what am I supposed to with this? A fancy box filled an expensive gift? or something else in which you may meet your demise. But, I assure you, I checked it and you'll be fine.
In it contains a promise, one I can't be there to make as I'm out playing pirates as you'd so playfully tease. If it's empty upon my return, I will know you want to take chance on me, us. If's full I'll understand too.

Billy folded up the letter and stuffed it in his pocket. Such a charmer, he didn't need a signature on the bottom to know it was Jack. He always gave himself away. As for the box, he opened it to see a ring, a plain silver ring encrusted with a diamond, a promise to be his?
He slipped onto his left hand and sat down. For it was time for group to start; he'd find his favorite swordsman later.
