Something for the oncoming Level Up event, planning for a fic more than 1k words with a second-person POV. So naturally, that POV is for Doppelganger/Yulia.

You try again in saying your swallow's name — again, "My swallow…" and you wince on cue, expecting her irritation. But instead of an indignant sigh and a short lecture on saying her name, she chuckles. In the dim light of a gas lamp, her eyes look so… soft. Reassuring, even — a look without demand or expectation, only love and patience.

Third time's the charm, so even with a nervous gulp, you say her name — Lara. And you watch her smile bloom.

Yulia, she says, followed by, good warrior, and she gives you careful strokes to your blood-crimson hair. Yulia — that's your new name, right? For so long, you've been derisively called Doppie, as if you were a disobedient child in need of a controlling parent, not a warrior with an intelligence as equal as your lover's. Nor has your nickname been said with a sort of quiet intimacy with which she's said to you. As if it's a form of prayer, an exaltation of you putting a permanent end to Natla's [THE EMPRESS] fury.

Bato meets her eyes, amused. “My sympathies, however, that I can do nothing about. I can’t switch it off, regretfully. None of us was spared these pleasures, but I don’t envy you nonetheless.”

Kitty admired Yuri’s calm expression. Yuri’s calmness was how she carried confidence, showed everyone she didn’t fear perception, let judgment wash over her in waves, let herself be in her element. That was when she looked the most beautiful in Kitty’s eyes.

I love the bantery nature of this little bit of dialogue! Bato being sympathetic of Ursa's experiences, yet not envying her one bit. I think that sort of teenage angst is so universal. You capture that so well in these two lines.
