How to play: Find the word in any WIP and comment with the sentence containing it. Just the one, ideally! The less context, the more hilarious & interesting it can be.

Note: Posting the word game to dreamwidth is an experiment! We have established communities on tumblr and bluesky, but I've never cross-posted the game here. If people enjoy this, we might keep it up. We've been playing the word game every week since early 2020. It's usually posted on Wednesdays.

I am bored. The Toy soldier has gone into sleep mode because Raphaella told it to sit in it’s room. And as always, it obeyed. I should ask the spider drones to create some vocal cords for me to order it about.

!!! That's fantastic - I wondered if the POV character was a robot or an object of some sorts! So 👀 Since the snippet is from the perspective of a sentient spaceship, is the "Toy soldier" mentioned a person (and the spaceship is simply using words like 'sleep mode' because that's the terms it itself operates in)?

It's the Aurora, yes.

The Toy Soldier seems to be a clockwork automaton. (It joined the Mechs when the usual singer character was in prison and stuck around since.) I don't know if we ever get any definite answer to what it is. It will also obey any order if given "nice and hard".

Ohhh, I see! That sounds like a fun universe to write in, and a really interesting perspective to look at the story in.

Hehe *am a child* But also: if the Aurora does receive vocal cords (...literal cords, I imagine! That tickles my brain in such a fun way), I'm curious what orders it/she would give to the Toy Soldier.

She did have a girlfriend with the engineer, but at some point, Aurora had been repaired so often, Nastya considered her not the same any longer, took the last OG piece of Aurora and went overboard. (I guess this was around the time the actual person left the band so we got a lore reason for it.)

OH OUCH 😭💔 And Aurora is still sentient... She's bored in that snippet. Oh. OHHH. I'm drawing parallels between "being repaired so often she's not considered the same any longer" and abandoned (after having the last piece of herself removed--basically stolen!) to people in real world falling apart under heartache and other life difficulties, and having to pick themselves up and adjust to function, and this process happening again and again, each time changing/affecting them bit by bit... And those around them, after a while, looking at them and seeing what to them seems to be a stranger (but they're not, they're not!). This... awoke some feelings 😅
